Romance of the Douro River
Discover Portugal on a 10-night journey that begins with three nights in Lisbon and continues with a seven-night cruise through the Douro River Valley. Explore Lisbon’s neighborhoods and visit Jerónimos Monastery, then travel to Óbidos and Coimbra, home to one of Europe’s oldest universities. Spend time in Porto, known for its riverside Ribeira district and long ties to the port wine trade. From there, cruise aboard a first-class ship through the Douro Valley, following a river shaped by centuries of winemaking. Excursions along the way include visits to wine estates and towns such as Vila Real and Lamego, with a stop in Salamanca, Spain. Regional cuisine, local pastries, and port wine tastings are woven throughout the journey, along with a traditional Portuguese folk show and a “Tuna” performance. A selection of included excursions allows for flexibility, and meals are thoughtfully included, with solo travelers able to take advantage of no single supplement!
