The Flying Longhorns travel program is a benefit for members of the Texas Exes. Luckily, anyone can become a member!
As the official travel program of Texas Exes, the Flying Longhorns provides Texas Exes members and their friends and family the opportunity to travel without the hassles of trip planning and logistics. Since 1961, more than 25,000 alumni and friends have traveled with the Flying Longhorns. All you have to do is sign up and show up! Bags are managed, reservations are in place, lovely accommodations are vetted and clean, transportation is waiting, and the drinks are cold.
The Texas Exes Flying Longhorns offers more than 70 trips each year, including domestic getaways, access to exclusive sporting events like the Masters Golf Tournament, European river cruises, African safaris, and even private jet journeys around the world! We’ve truly got something for everyone!
Every trip booked through the Texas Exes Flying Longhorns helps further the association’s mission of uniting alumni and friends of The University of Texas around the world. While you do not have to be an alumnus of UT to travel with us, we do ask that all Flying Longhorns have an active membership in the Texas Exes. Memberships start at just $50.
Who can travel on these amazing trips? Do I have to be a UT alum? Can I invite my friends?
Our trips are open to anyone and everyone! Participation in a Flying Longhorns trip is a membership benefit; we ask that all travelers have a current Texas Exes membership. You do not have to have attended or graduated from The University of Texas at Austin to be a member—all are welcome to join! There are several levels of membership available.
How do I make a reservation?
Reservations will be honored on a first come, first served basis with a paid deposit. Early booking is encouraged to ensure availability. You can reserve many of our trips online via secure payment websites, or you can contact the Flying Longhorns office at 1-800-594-3900 or Travel@TexasExes.org. If the trip of your choice is full when we receive your reservation, you can usually be placed on a waiting list—and often you can be accommodated later. If a trip has not met a minimum number of participants by 120 days prior to departure, the trip could be rescheduled or cancelled.
Can I travel by myself, or do I need to find a roommate?
Many of our frequent travelers fly solo! All our trips can be booked single occupancy. While we do offer quite a few trips each year with no single supplement fee, a fee may apply to select trips. If you are traveling solo and open to sharing a room, we can try to match you with a roommate. Please see trip brochures for pricing details or contact us for more information: 1-800-594-3900 or Travel@TexesExes.org
How strenuous are your trips? How much walking is required?
To enjoy the Flying Longhorns experience, participants have the responsibility to select a trip appropriate to their abilities and interests. The tour staff is responsible for the group as a whole and will not be able to extensively assist individuals. For most trips, the participant will need to have the ability to climb sets of stairs that may not have handrails, walk on uneven surfaces, stand for at least two hours, and keep pace with the other travelers during full days that start early. Please give us a call to chat about your individual needs and the varying requirements of different destinations.
What about COVID? How can we stay safe while traveling?
Travel may look different now, but as always, your well-being and enjoyment remain our highest priorities. Our tour partners are regularly reviewing updates from international authorities and health experts to respond and adhere to new requirements and expectations at destinations throughout the world. Our tour partners follow local regulations regarding appropriately sized groups based on each government’s social distancing requirements. We promise stress-free travel and the highest level of service from the experienced, professional staff of international travel directors who accompany each of our trips.
