Italy’s Riviera is a region known for its sparkling sea, sun-drenched beaches and charming towns. This corner of Italy has been inspiring artists, writers and travelers for centuries. Experience delight as you explore alluring towns, historic cities and enjoy an enrichment program focusing on the region’s art, culture and heritage.

Day 1 :
Depart gateway city
AHI FlexAir passengers depart for Genoa, Italy. Please check your luggage from your gateway city to your arrival city. Your claim checks should have the following airport code: GOA.

If you have purchased only the Land Program, please book flights that arrive on the first day of the Land Program. The Land Program dates appear at the top of your Reservation Confirmation.

Day 2 :
Genoa, Italy/Sestri Levante
Arrive at Cristoforo Colombo Genoa Airport. Proceed through immigration to the baggage claim area and retrieve your luggage. After completing customs, AHI FlexAir passengers traveling on flights that qualify for the group arrival transfer and Land Program passengers who have purchased seats on the group transfer should exit the baggage claim area and proceed to the designated meeting spot, where an AHI Travel representative will meet them. The meeting location will be provided with your final documents.

Transfer to the Hotel Vis à Vis. Please note if you arrive before check-in time, your room may not be immediately available.

Gather with your fellow travelers for a Welcome Reception and Dinner.

Day 3 :
Rapallo/Portofino/Santa Margherita
Discovery: The Italian Riviera.
For centuries, this beautiful region has enchanted artists, writers and explorers. Learn about its history and culture.

Discovery: The Riviera.
Spend the day discovering the Italian Riviera. Travel the coastal road to Rapallo, a seaside resort adorned with swaying palm trees and hillside villas. Cruise to Portofino, playground of the rich and famous, and stroll along the colorful harbor. Cruise the sapphire waters to Santa Margherita, another jewel on the Italian Riviera. Take a break for lunch on your own before rejoining the group for a walking tour.

Day 4 :
Discovery: Lucca.
Venture into nearby Tuscany to the walled city of Lucca. Visit the grand Romanesque Duomo di San Martino, with carvings by Nicola Pisano. Admire the white marble, the art-filled chapels of the Church of San Frediano and the Church of San Michele.

Enrichment: Italy Today.
Explore the current events shaping contemporary Italy.

Day 5 :
Discovery: Genoa.
Admire the view of the city from atop La Spianata di Castelleto. See the Renaissance palazzi on lovely Via Garibaldi. Wander labyrinthine streets past medieval churches to the Columbus House, believed to be the birthplace of navigator Christopher Columbus. Visit the Palazzo Ducale. See the majestic black-and-white striped façade of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo.

Take a break for a sweet treat. See how to make Italy’s world-famous ice cream before indulging yourself with a taste!

After leaving Genoa, transfer to the charming resort town of Camogli.

Free Time:
Enjoy some time on your own in Camogli. Choose one of the many seaside restaurants for lunch and then take a stroll through town, if you’d like. Notice the colorfully painted houses, and look carefully because the windows, shutters, cornices and other features may not be real! For centuries, people in Camogli have used the trompe l’oeil painting technique to embellish the façades of their homes.

Enrichment: Meet the People.
Sit down with a panel of local residents to talk about life in Italy today.

Dinner is served at the hotel.

Day 6 :
Sestri Levante
Free time:
Enjoy a full day at leisure. Spend your time in Sestri Levante. Visit some local shops and put together a picnic lunch to enjoy in one of the town’s many parks or beaches, or explore the local museums. With the train station nearby, you can also venture further afield. Your Travel Director can offer suggestions for the day’s activities.

Enrichment: The Cinque Terre.
Learn about the Cinque Terre through a lesson in its unusual geography and economy, then enjoy a tasting of local wine and foods.

Day 7 :
Cinque Terre
Discovery: The Cinque Terre.
Journey to the dramatic terraced landscapes and colorful villages of Cinque Terre National Park. Visit the ancient Roman seaport of Portovenere; after a guided tour, enjoy some free time to explore on your own before continuing to Manarola, center of the region’s wine and olive oil production. Continue by boat and see Manarola, Corniglia and Vernazza from the Ligurian Sea.

Discovery: A Seaside Lunch.
Take a seat at a waterfront restaurant in Vernazza for a delicious lunch, featuring seafood just plucked from the sea! The Taverna del Capitano serves “cucina tipica,” traditional cuisine.

Free Time:
After lunch, stretch your legs and take a leisurely stroll through Vernazza at your own pace.

Day 8 :
Enrichment: Carrara Marble.
Travel to Carrara, home of legendary marble quarries used for more than 2,000 years. This is where Michelangelo chose the gleaming white blocks he transformed into unforgettable masterpieces. Tour Fantiscritti Quarry.

Enjoy lunch in Carrara before returning to Sestri Levante.

Join your fellow travelers and share stories of your journey together at a Farewell Reception and Dinner.

Day 9 :
Depart for gateway city
After breakfast, AHI FlexAir passengers traveling on flights that qualify for a group transfer and Land Program passengers who have purchased seats on the group transfer depart for Cristoforo Colombo Genoa Airport for your return flights home. Your Travel Director will provide the details.
