About the Flying Longhorns

Image

Since 1961, the Flying Longhorns have taken University of Texas alumni, and their friends and family, all over the world. Whether it’s an Icelandic Northern Lights excursion or a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, we make both the far-flung and close-to-home fun, safe, and accessible. We handle all the details, so you can show up ready to have the time of your life.

Every trip booked through the Texas Exes Flying Longhorns program helps further the association’s mission of uniting alumni and friends of The University of Texas around the world. While you don’t have to be an alumnus of UT to join our trips, we do ask that our travelers carry an active Texas Exes membership. Memberships start at just $50.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a UT alum to travel with the Flying Longhorns?

No—our trips are open to everyone! You are not required to be an alumni of The University of Texas at Austin to travel with us. We do ask that our travelers have a current Texas Exes membership. We have several membership levels available.

How active are your trips?

To enjoy the Flying Longhorns experience, participants have the responsibility to select a trip appropriate to your physical abilities. The tour staff is responsible for the group as a whole and will not be able to assist individuals. For most trips, travelers will need to climb stairs that may not have handrails, navigate uneven surfaces, walk a mile unassisted, and keep pace with the rest of the group during full days that start early. Please give us a call to chat about your individual needs and discuss specific destinations.

Do I have to wait for a trip brochure to arrive in order to sign up?

No! Most of our trips are available for online booking weeks or months before a trip brochure is mailed. We suggest you book early to take advantage of early booking discounts and to ensure space is available. Once brochures are sent, most trips fill up very quickly!

Do you offer trips without a single supplement?

Yes! You can find all our “no single supplement” trips here.

How do I register for a trip?

Many of our trips now offer online booking. To register online, click the booking button on each trip page. You’re also welcome to call our office to begin the registration process. We can be reached Monday-Friday during business hours at (800) 594-3900 or by emailing travel@texasexes.org.

How do I book my flight?

You can always book air travel through the operator of your specific trip. When air is booked through the operator, transfers are included, but you are unable to pay using points. If you decide to book your own air, please make sure you have received an arrival and departure window to ensure your airfare timing matches the groups. Travelers who arrange their own air can typically pay a fee to join the transfer.

What about visas, vaccinations, etc.?

Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive specific information from the trip’s operator that outlines any requirements.

What happens if I need to cancel a trip?

The tour operator requires written confirmation of your cancellation. You can email them directly or you can email travel@texasexes.org.
